What happens if the system cannot read my fingerprint (e.g., wet or scarred fingers)?
Our fingerprint biometric readers use high-sensitivity optical sensors, but issues like extreme dryness, sweat, or scars can occasionally affect scans. To ensure 100% access reliability, we recommend:
Registering at least two different fingers per user.
Using our 3-in-1 hybrid systems that allow for backup entry via Proximity Card or PIN code.
Is the biometric data secure and PDPA compliant?
Yes. The fingerprint systems do not store an actual image of your fingerprint. Instead, they convert the unique points of your print into an encrypted mathematical template (an algorithm). This data is stored locally on the device or a secure server and cannot be reconstructed back into a fingerprint image, helping your business remain compliant with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
What happens to the door lock during a power failure?
For commercial installations in Singapore, we typically provide two options:
Battery Backup (UPS): We install a 12V backup battery that keeps the system operational for 4–8 hours during an outage.
Fail-Safe: For fire safety, building exit doors secured by access control systems should be designed to automatically unlock doors in the event of a fire, thereby helping to facilitate evacuation, in line with the Code of Practice for Fire Precautions in Buildings from the Singapore Civil Defence Force ( SCDF ). Assista could work with the fire alarm systems integrator for the integration of the access control system with fire alarm system
Besides options above, each door access system will also be equipped with an emergency break glass unit as a means of manual override located within the occupied space, 1.2m above the floor and within 1.5m of the door jamb.
Can this system be used for staff clock-in/attendance?
If you need attendance functions, please share this requirement during pre-sales stage so that the correct type of fingerprint reader model could be recommended. Many Singapore companies are using Time Attendance from Assista. The system logs the exact date and time of every entry. Reports can be generated in formats such as Excel, CSV, PDF or text. files. These files could be pulled out easily from cloud, a software that runs on Windows or using USB port, to integrate with your payroll or HRMS.
How many fingerprints can one system store?
Our entry-level systems typically store up to 500 to 3,000 templates, while enterprise models can support over 10,000 users. This makes them suitable for everything from small offices, SMEs and to large industrial warehouses and buildings.
Can I install this on a glass door or a fire-rated wooden door?
Yes. Assista provides Standard brackets (U-brackets or L-brackets) for frameless glass doors and heavy-duty Electromagnetic (EM) Locks for wooden or fire-rated doors. Optional specialized brackets could also be needed depending on the design of the door and door frame.
How long does the installation take?
A standard single-door installation without software could take 3 to 8 hours. More time could be involved, depending on the entire scope of works and the solution. Some installation work could stretch up to multiple days or weeks to reach completion. This includes mounting the reader, power supply unit, wiring the EM lock and entire system, installing the exit button/break-glass and other optional accessories such as keyswitch, remote controller, door bell etc, basic/ more detailed installation involving network cabling, software, cloud, smartphone app and configuration of the system and providing a training session for your admin staffs. In some cases, customisations and non-standard work is needed depending on the frame, door and installation requirements. Assista also offers optional integration with building fire alarm system. Renovation works and availability of the customer’s internet, network equipment, PC, laptop, etc could also add up more time to complete the full installation.
